Tonight (3PM ET), Anda Ramat Hasharon will take the court at the Verizon Center for a historic preseason games against the Washington Mystics. The excitment level is running high in Ramat Hasharon's camp, around 5,000 fans are expected.
If Ramla and its three WNBA players gave Anda Ramat Hasharon a hard time, imagine a lineup of Nikki Teasley, Coco Miller, Crystal Robinson, DeLisha Milton Jones and Chasity Melvin. Washington's star Alana Beard who is suffering from a shoulder injury won't play, but even without her the Mystics shouldn't have too much trouble.
The emotions on Ramat Hasharon are high. "We've been busy preparing for this event but now we're focused on the game and we can't hide the excitment", said coach Orna Ostfeld. "Just walking through this incredible arena, and coming out to the floor, as a coach and not a spectator, is very exciting. It's a big moment for Anda Ramat Hasharon to be in an event like this", she added.
Washington has quite a few players with Israeli connections. Chasity Melvin played in Israel for 3 years, the last one being in Ramat Hasharon. Crystal Robinson won the championship with Ramla in 04/05, and played in Raanana last season. Nakia Sanford played two seasons in Israel. Alana Beard dropped by for a visit this year. Tamara James spent a couple of months practicing in Hafia Motzkin this season but couldn't play due to Motzkin's financial issues. Nikki Blue played for four years with Ortal Oren in UCLA.
