Staying In Ashdod
Lior Klinger ,05/04/2007
Maccabi Ashdod missed the playoffs on the last round of the season, and two major pieces of the puzzle decided to pick up where they left off. Head coach Dahlia Bushinsky and Capitan Brandi McCain, as well as Michal Epstein, have resigned.

Maccabi Ashdod was one of the league's pleasant surprises this past season, in large part thanks to their young coach who in her debut season turned Ashdod to a legitimate playoff contender. Dahlia Bushinsky and Ashdod finished the season a bit disappointed, in 5th place with a record of 11 - 12. Ashdod was one of the few teams who didn't replace players during the season, which contributed to the team's identity and fan appeal. The injury bug hit the team late and hard, and hurt their playoff hopes.

"We had a good season, other than the standings we had good things happen off the court, in terms of management, the treatment the players got, and of course the wonderful crowd", said Bushinsky, "I want to continue what we started". Brandi McCain, who became Ashdod's symbol in the last 2.5 seasons, is also staying on board. The lightning quick point guard who's known for her ability to go on fast scoring bursts, averaged 20.5 point (4th in league) on very good shooting and 3.5 assists (8th in league) per game last season.

This will be McCain's 4th season with the club, and in our league it's rare to find an Israeli who plays for that long on the same team, let alone a foreigner. McCain was there in 05/06 when Ashdod only won five games, and the year before she arrived in the middle of the season to find a 0 - 10 team and kept them safely in the league.

As for the team's Israeli roster, Michal Epstein who joined in the middle of last season has resigned, as well as Inbal Shnapper and Noa Shor.
