Ole Miss Knock Terps Out
Lior Klinger ,03/21/2007
Sometimes you have to give credit where credit is due, Ole Miss played a prefect game tonight against Maryland. The Lady Rebels rattled the defending champs by forcing turnover after turnover and punishing on the break, they jumped out to a huge lead early on. Maryland was still down 17 with 6 minutes to go, was able to get within 6 points with 2 minutes to go but the hole was too deep. Ole Miss held on and rightfully so. Shay Doron finished her college career with 9 points in the 78-89 2nd round loss.

Maryland 78 – Ole Miss 89
Maryland woke up from the repeat dream into a nightmare, there's no other word to describe Ole Miss' paralyzing defense. The Terps played into the Rebels' hands, made too many mistakes and couldn't recover. The game wasn't as close as the score might indicate. Ole Miss stunned Maryland right from the start with incredible ball pressure that forced 20 turnovers in the first half, which were translated to 32 fast break points. Ole Miss led by as many as 23 in the 1st half, which ended 47-30.

Shay Doron, who did not take a shot in the first half, helped Maryland raise their intensity in the 2nd half and stage a late comeback. The Terps cut it to 69-75 with under two minutes to go but it just wasn't enough, the night belong to Armintie Price who carried Ole Miss with 28 points on great shooting, they move on to face Oklahoma in the sweet 16.

"It was complete disregard for keeping the ball in our hands and getting shots. We knew that we had to get shots and we didn't", said Doron. "We shot the ball better than anyone in the country and we just couldn't get looks, couldn't get good shots and kept turning the ball over. They got easy lay-ups off of that."

"I am proud of the fact that our team never gave up to night, but all the credit goes to Ole Miss", said Brenda Frese. "They punished us in the first half with the 20 turnovers and giving up 47 points. They really feed off of us once they got their defense going and cause a lot of turnovers from our end. We couldn't get our offense going just like it has been often times this season it affected our defense."
