Monique Currie Ramla bound

One of the biggest stars of the women's college game in recent years and the 3rd overall pick in the best WNBA draft in history will play for Elizur Ramla this season. Currie, a Duke graduate and a starter for the Charlotte Sting, revived what's been a pretty slow offseason so far. Actually forget revived, more like resurrected.

"I'm very pleased, this is a huge signing" said Ramla Coach, Eli Rabi. "She's the 3rd pick in one of the best drafts in history, behind Siemone Augustus and Cappie Pondexter". Those two, by the way, rank in the top 5 scorers of the entire league – an unprecedented achievement for rookies. The 2006 class is probably the deepest rookie class talent-wise that the league has ever seen, and Currie ranked in the rookie top 10 for points, rebounds, assists and steals per game.
Currie (23, 6'0) was a starter for the Sting and averaged 10.0 points & 3.9 boards per game. She was named to the WNBA's All-Rookie team. Currie is a slasher, doesn't shy away from contact, and gets to the line a lot. She's an amazing athlete and a superb defender. If you've been following the college game last season, you definitely remember Shay Doron and the Maryland Terrapins stun Currie and the Duke Blue Devils in the championship game overtime thriller, 78-75.
"It's up to her to prove it on the court, she's got all the abilities. It's not every day that you bring a player of this caliber to Ramla" said Rabi. "Those who follow the WNBA know that 10 points and 4 boards per game for a rookie are incredible numbers. Potential-wise she is a player at the highest level there is in basketball. She lives the game, she's physical, can even play the 4, she's a 3-4."

Currie didn't help the Sting reach the playoffs but the team won 11 games – almost twice as many compared to last season. During her storied college career at Duke, Currie earned many personal accolades. She earned Kodak All-American honors twice, was the ACC Player of The Year as a junior, received All-ACC First Team honor in 2006 and 2005 and Second Team honors in 2004 and 2002.
