Edwina Brown returns

Edwina Brown, who previously played for Raanana Hertzeliya and Ramat Hen, is coming back to Israel after two years to join Maccabi Ashdod.

Ashdod completed a very attractive back-court by signing Edwina Brown (28, 5'9) to play along side Brandi McCain.

Brown played two seasons in Israel. In 02/03, she played 9 games for Raanana Hertzeliya after replacing Nikki Thompkins mid season. Brown led the league in scoring with 22.2 points per game, grabbed 5.9 rebounds, dished 1.4 assists and got a league leading 3.6 steals per game, which equaled her turnovers per game. She shot 87% from the free throw line and 47.5% from inside the arc.

Brown spent the entire 03/04 season with Ramat Hen, where she played the point guard position next to Tawona Alhaleem. Brown proved to be a great all-around player as she finished the season with 16.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists (4th best in the league, 3.4 turnovers and a league leading 2.9 steals per game. She shot 86.7% from the line and 58% from inside the arc. Ramat Hen made the finals where they lost to Ramla in four games, Brown was named to the 'Safsal' All-Israeli league 1st team.

After leaving Israel, Brown played a season in Spain and a season in France. She is a University of Texas graduate, where she won the Wade Trophy in her senior year. Brown was the 3rd overall pick in the 2000 WNBA draft, and is currently the highest WNBA draft pick to play in the Israeli league. After 3 seasons in Detroit, Brown moved to Phoenix in the 2003 season. During the 2004 training camp Brown tore her Achilles tendon, a season ending injury, and was released from the Mercury as a result. Brown was invited to the N.Y Liberty's training camp this summer but didn't make the team. On August 4th Brown joined the injury plagued Houston Comets, and played in the last four games of the regular season (1 pt, 7 minutes per game).
