Catching up with Liad
Lior Klinger ,04/09/2006
Liad Suez Karni wrapped up her college career at Villanova a couple of weeks ago. She was one of the invitees to the WNBA's pre draft camp but her name wasn't among the 42 players drafted on April 5th. Suez Karni shared her post draft thoughts and future plans with 'Safsal'.

Suez Karni's senior campaign at Villanova was her best season to date. She finished as the team's top scorer with 14.9 points on 41.1% from downtown and added 5.2 boards per game, all of those are career highs. During the season she recorded a historic triple double, scored a career high of 34 points and became the 18th player in Villanova's history to reach 1,000 career points – a remarkable achievement considering she had just 3 years of eligibility. The Wildcats' season ended with an 81-94 loss to Western Kentucky in the WNIT's quarter finals. Villanova won nine of their final 12 games and finished the season with a 21-11 record.

Suez Karni was one of the 42 players invited to the WNBA's pre draft camp, a list which did not include the true top-10 prospects or the seniors taking part in the final four. "I thought it went really well, I gave it everything I had, I played well but as it turns out I wasn't what the teams were looking for, they all came up and told me that I had a great camp" said Suez Karni. "Of course I was a little disappointment because I thought I played well enough to get in, but I came into this thinking its a win-win situation for me, I either go to the WNBA and have a great experience or I go home and play for the national team, both options looked similarly appealing to me and I'm just happy I had the opportunity to go to the camp, I had a great time and now I'm looking forward to graduation and to finally coming home. I had a wonderful experience here and I really had the time of my life, its been an awesome four years and I couldn't have done it without my husband's support and my entire family's support."

Of course we had to ask Liad if she had time to watch the final four and what she thought about Shay Doron & Maryland going all the way. "I was very happy for Shay and Maryland, I thought they deserved to win they play very well together and their coach seemed great, giving them a world of confidence. I think Shay is a great ambassador for Israel, she did a great job and played extremely well."
