Chelsea Newton, a starter for WNBA champs Sacramento Monarchs, is headed towards Ramla.

Jewish American point guard Leslie Berger signed with the team.

Chelsea Newton (22, 5'11) is supposed to land in Israel early next week. Ramla currently has three American players signed (Tawona Alhaleem, Cathy Joens, Bell Jordan) and it's unclear who, if at all, Newton is supposed to replace.

Newton was the 22nd pick in the last WNBA draft by the Sacramento Monarchs. She started all 34 regular season and eight playoff games and is known as a great defender. Newton averaged 4.4 points per game on 40.3% shooting in the regular season, and upped her averaged to 5.8 PPG on 42.9% shooting in the post season. Her long season ended just a week ago as the Monarchs won the WNBA Championship.

Newton graduated from Rutgers University where she was named Big East defensive player of the year in her senior season.

Jewish American point guard Leslie Berger signed with Ramla and will fly in on the 28th. Berger was a member of the USA's gold winning Maccabiha team. Berger averaged 6.0 PPG and 5.1 APG in her senior year in Washington University in St. Louis.
