Joens to Ramla

Elizur Ramla signed Cathy Joens, a 24 year old guard-forward known as an excellent 3pt shooter.

Ramla signed its 3rd American player - Cathy Joens (24, 5'11) who graduated from George Washington in 2004. Joens was the 30th overall pick by the New York Liberty in the 2004 WNBA draft, but was released in the final day of training camp. Joens tried out with the Mysitcs this season but did not make the final roster.

Last season, Joens played in Spain and averaged 13.5 pts, 3.3 rbs, 1.6 stls and 0.9 ast per game. She made 44% from 3pt land, which ranked her 2nd best in the league. Right now Joens is playing with a select team called Athletes In Action.

By signing Joens, defending champions Ramla seems to have set its starting five for the upcoming season. Kim MacMillan and Ina Gourevitch in the back court, Joens at the 3, Tawona Alhaleem at the 4 and Bell Jordan at the 5.

Joens finished her decorated college career third on George Washington's all time scoring list and 2nd in 3-pointers made. As a senior she averaged 19.3 pts, 6.1 rbs, 3.2 ast and 2.2 stls per game. She shot 44.6% from beyond the arc and led the Atlantic 10 conference in three pointers. Joens was selected to the A-10 First Team for the 3rd straight time in her career, and was also named A-10 Co-Player of the year Year (her second selection as A-10 Player of the Year) as she led George Washington to the regular season title in the Atlantic 10 Conference, finishing the season at 22-8. Joens was named the Atlantic 10’s Student Athlete of the Year and was a finalist for the NCAA's Woman of the Year award.
