Selwyn leaves Anda Ramat Hasharon

Anda Ramat Hasharon announced today that Laine Selwyn, the team's point guard last season, has signed to play with the Turkish Champion Besiktas in the upcoming season.

Quotes from Selwyn and Ramat Hasharon's coach are inside.

Laine Selwyn signed with Besiktas for the 05/06 season, after the team made her a very good offer. Selwyn's contract with Anda Ramat Hasharon allowed her to leave for a European club.

Anda Ramat Hasharon chose not to match Besiktas' offer and let Selwyn go.

"All this just happened recently, in the last few days", Selwyn told 'Safsal' in a conversation from the States. "There was nothing more that I wanted than to go back to Ramat Hasharon but I thought it was best for my career to go to a big team, big city like Istanbul, a Europe Cup team. I wouldn't say it was a big difference, between the two offers, but it's a lot of money. The bottom line is I really, really wanted to be in Israel but it didn't work out" said Selwyn.

Selwyn was named to the Israeli league 1st Team by the coaches and by 'Safsal' in 04/05. She was the Israeli league leader in assists with 4.9 APG, and also averaged 10.2 pts and 5 rebs per game. Selwyn, who also recorded a historic triple double last season, led Anda Ramat Hasharon to the Israeli Cup, 3rd place in the Europe Cup and Israeli championship finals.

Coach Orna Ostfeld told Safsal: "This is not a loss for us, if it was we would have matched the offer. This is a decision by the management and myself, this is what we wanted. We'll do what's best for our team, and we have a great team. Right now we have 2 great point guards [Bess Greenberg & Tamar Maoz] which I trust, they're just as good as Selwyn if not better."
