Tal Natan returning to Raanana

A month after the fiasco in Ramla, Tal Natan signed a two-year deal to coach Raanana Herzeliya. Natan’s response and a word from Roni Ka’an, the team’s former coach, inside.

Tal Natan was named the new Raanana Herzeliya coach today in place of Roni Ka’an. Natan is returning to Raanana after leading the club to the Israeli Cup in the 00/01 season.

Tal Natan: “I’m very happy to join the Raanana Herzeliya club, I think these two cities have great potential to upgrade the system and reach the top of Israeli women’s basketball. I’ll be very happy if we could position ourselves at the top right away in this upcoming season. Both cities have strong youth divisions and I intend to use some of the standout young players on the senior team.
The 3 years in Ramla were wonderful, two championships and a cup. Despite the comedy/tragedy in the recent playoffs, I leave a lot of friends, fans, and most of all accomplishments there. When I got to Ramla the team was in 6th place in the league. I have a lot of good memories, and one man who wanted to steal the show for publicity but it didn’t work.”
About building the team in Raanana Herzeliya, said Natan: “I start with the Israelis cause I think they make the difference, all the teams will have good foreigners. I really want Tamar Maoz to stay, she had a great season and she’s a worthy captian, I want her to continue as captain this next season too. In the next few days we’ll sign some more Israelis.”

Roni Ka’an: “Raanana Herzeliya’s management and I are on good terms, we had a one year contract and they’re allowed to sign whoever they want. Why they decided to replace the coach you’ll have to ask them and not me. I had an intention to continue our contract and even began negotiating with some players but something changed in the last month. I wanted to continue to try and succeed while including young players from the cities youth divisions like I have been doing in the last 2 years, but it wasn’t my decision to make. I wish the club success in the future and want to take this opportunity to thank my assistant coach, Itay Weksler, our trainer and all the players for their cooperation and hard work. As for my future, we’ll see, there’s talk in the women’s league and the men’s.
