AUSTIN (AP) - Former University of Texas & Maccabi Ashdod player JoRuth Woods was found dead in her home in Cedar Hill. She was 25.

Woods was found by her mother Sunday afternoon and authorities are investigating the death as a suicide, Cedar Hill Police Sgt. Colin Chenault said Thursday.

Woods led Cedar Hill High School to the state tournament her junior and senior years before playing at Texas from 1997-2000. She averaged 9.8 points for the Longhorns.

After college, she played professionally one season in Austria and a season in Israel before returning to Texas to teach school. She averaged 15.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game in Israel. Woods was a fifth-grade teacher at Hardin Elementary School.

"She was a people person," her father, Winford Woods, told the Austin American-Statesman. "She was a leader in whatever she did. She'd just draw people to her. She touched a lot of people's lives."

A wake will be held Friday night at Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home in Dallas.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Cedar Hill.
