Tel Kabir and Ashdod sign new foreigners

Ashdod signed center Ugo Oha, George Washington grad and Nigeria’s national team member Oha is the 7th foreigner to sign with Ashdod this season. Tel Kabir signed L.A’s Doneeka Hodges in place of Khalila Williams.

Maccabi Tel Kabir signed Doneeka Hodges, a guard from the L.A Sparks. Hodges (5’9, 22) was the 25th pick in the 2004 WNBA draft by the Sparks, and played 24 games there averaging 10 minutes per game. Hodges graduated from LSU, and played 3 seasons with DeTrina White. As a senior she averaged 13.9 points, 3.7 rebs and 3.2 assists per game.

The Hodges signing changes the entire team concept , since Hodges’ game is more like Tai Dillard’s than Williams’. Williams wasn’t having the best of seasons, but had 14.1 pts and 6.3 rebs per game while playing inside. Sarit Arbel and LaNedra Brown will have to make up for her rebounding. Dillard and Hodges should give Tel Kabir a lot of quickness, no other team in the league has to American guards, and both play in the WNBA no less.

Ashdod completed it’s new roster with the signing of Ugo Oha, Nigeria’s center in the 2004 Olympic games. Oha (22, 6’4) was the 26th pick in the last WNBA draft by Connecticut but was released a few days before the season started. As a senior in George Washington, Oha averaged 13.8 points, 7.1 boards and 3.3 blocks per game. She joins point guard Brandi McCain and scorer Shaun Gortman in Ashdod as the 7th foreigner to land there, after Kelley Gibson, LaTonya Johnson, Kaayla Chones and Jocelyn Penn all came and went at some point during the season. Still, if this lineup clicks it’s not too late for Ashdod to get a couple of wins and stay in DI.
