Welcome Back: Ramla Signs Pierson
Orli Klinger ,12/17/2009
Plenette Pierson, our 06/07 MVP after leading Ramla to a Championship & Cup, is rejoining the team after completing her shoulder injury rehab. Ramla also made a PG swap.

Plenette Pierson, who won the Championship and Cup with Ramla in 06/07 along side Monique Currie, is making a comeback. Comeback not only to Ramla but to basketball, after a shoulder injury suffered in the opening minutes of the past WNBA season had her sidelined till just recently. Pierson injured the shoulder after getting tangled up with Tina Thompson in a play that some say was international. The injury was almost identical to what happened to Pierson in the 08 WNBA playoffs. Pierson will hope to regain her form in Ramla, where she averaged 19.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game in a MVP season.

Since that year in our fair country, Pierson won the WNBA's 6th woman of the year award in 2007 and her 2nd WNBA Championship with the Shock in 2008. In Europe she played in Russia and Poland.

Pierson is coming in place of Ashley Paris, who unlike her sister who's leaving Ashdod by choice for more money, was cut by the team. It'll be very interesting to see how the hierarchy in Ramla will work, or if it'll work, as Pierson is used to more touches than what Paris used to get. Paris averaged 16.9 points (57% FGs) and 9.9 rebounds per game.

Ramla also cut Ancuta Stonesco, the Romanian PG who averaged just 3.7 points and 2.3 assists per game. The new PG who'll try to please all the talent around her is Milica Dabovic (1.75, 27), national team player of Serbia. Dabovic averaged 3.7 points in 16 minutes per game for Serbia this summer in Eurobasket, despite being the most experienced player on the young Serb roster.

Dabovic's European resume is more impressive, with seasons in Russia, France and Turkey. Last season she played in the Euroleague with Besiktas, along side Shay Doron and then Liron Cohen, and averaged 7.5 points and 1.5 assists per game. She has never averaged more than 2.3 assists per game in Euroleague or Eurocup play.

Ramla's new look will debut after the Christmas break, Januray 4th, at home against Ramat Hasharon.
