Ramla Cuts White, Looks for PG
Safsal ,01/04/2009
The defending champion decided to release Tan White and is currently holding a tryout for three potential replacements. The familiar name among them is Matalya Belvin who was recently cut from Ramat Hen. "I still believe in our team, we'll have to make the right changes" said Eli Rabi, more changes are possible.

Ramla decided to release Tan White and try to bring in a point guard. White, talented scorer who averaged 14.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game in the league, found herself playing the 1 full time after Ramla cut Annmarie Parau at the beginning of December. Bottom line you can't say White did anything wrong, she played for Ramla the same way she has played her whole career, but Ramla must have expected more from a #2 draft pick with a heavy salary.

"We decided to release Tan from a number of reasons, and bring in a PG" said Eli Rabi. "
"Overall we're doing well in the league but in Ramla the expectations are to be 4 levels above the league and this season its not possible, since Ramla doesn't have the edge in the Israelis as it always had", he continued, "I still believe in the team, we'll have to make the right changes".

Ramla decided to bring in 3 players for a tryout, 2 PG and one unknown guard. The most recognizable name belongs to Matalya Belvin (26, 5'3) who started the season with Ramat Hen and was cut for Ivory Latta. Belvin averaged 15.1 points on good shooting, 4.1 assists and 4.2 turnovers in 29 minutes per game, helping Ramat Hen win 8 out of 10 games. Belvin proved she can generate points for herself from anywhere on the floor and also did a good job defensively with 2.7 steals per game (3rd in the league).

The 2nd PG is A'Quonesia Franklin (23, 5'4), Texas A&M graduate who was the 38th overall pick in the last WNBA draft by Sacramento. She averaged 1.6 points and 1.7 assists in 10.3 minutes per game with the Monarchs. Farnklin is known as a good passer with good decision making. She led the Big 12 conference in assists to turnover ratio in each of her 4 seasons in college.

The 3rd and least known played in the bunch is Joyce Ekworomadu (22, 5'9), graduate of Texas State University. As a senior she averaged 18.6 points (43.6% from 3) and 5.0 rebounds per game. Ekworomadu plays the 2-3 positions and it's unclear why Ramla thins they need her, she was not drafted this past summer and was cut from San Antonio's training camp.
