Doron Up For FIBA's Player of the Year

Shay Doron, currently playing for Besiktas and who led Ramla to the Europe Cup semis last season is one of 14 candidates for FIBA's Player of the Year award for 2008. Among the leading candidates – Anete Jekabsone and Maria Stepanova.

At the end of every year, FIBA selects the continent's best player. Shay Doron was chosen as one of 14 candidates for the prestigious award, after a great season in Ramla and a wonderful campaign with the Israeli national team.

Doron led Ramla all the way to the Europe Cup semi finals with 18.6 points and 3.0 assists per game, including incredible displays of 30-plus point games. With the national team Doron was the 2nd best scorer in the entire tournament with 20.5 points per game on good shooting, to help Israel finish 1st in the bracket at the expense of Lithuania and Ukraine and advance to EuroBasket 2009.

This season Doron is playing for Besiktas, Turkey, where she is averaging 14.5 points and 2.6 assists per game in the EuroLeague.
