Adia Barnes Joins Ramla

Adia Barnes, American forward with an Italian passport who played in Israel six years ago, signed with the defending champions and will replace Annmarie Parau in the Israeli league, starting this Monday.

Ever since Parau landed here, it seemed like her days are numbered. Her numbers were pretty good with 9.1 points and 2.4 assists in 27.6 minutes per game, but her quite style just wasn't what Ramla has come to expect. Parau will stay with Ramla and play in the Europe cup.

Ramla decided to bring in Adia Barnes (31, 5'11), who played two seasons in Israel in 00/01 and 01/02 for Bnei Yehuda and Maccabi Tel Aviv. Eli Rabi coached her in Bnei Yehuda. Barnes started the season in Italy for Priolo, where she averaged 9.4 points and 4.4 rebounds in 28.9 minutes per game over seven games. Priolo won three of them.

Barnes is an Arizona graduate and was the 32nd overall pick in the 1998 WNBA draft. She played seven seasons in the WNBA, the last three in Seattle between 2002 and 2004, she won the championship with the Storm in 2004.

In Bnei Yehuda Barnes averaged 21.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in 36.2 minutes per game. The following year in Maccabi Tel Aviv she recorded 21.8 points and 7.1 rebounds in 34.3 minutes per game. After leaving Israel Barnes did not play in Europe for two years. In 04/05 and 05/06 she played in Turkey, and in 06/07 she played in Russia for Eketrinburg. She scored 6.7 points in 28.6 minutes per game in the EuroLeague.

In the last two years Barnes has played in Italy, meaning in the 07/08 season and this season. Last year she played in Napoli, 9.6 points and 5.1 rebounds in 27.1 minutes per game. Napoli also played in the EuroLeague where Barnes averaged 9.8 points and 4.4 rebounds in 27.7 minutes per game.
