2nd Win for Shafir & Toledo

After the victory over Arizona yesterday, Naama Shafir and the Toledo Rockets defeated host Hawaii 67-61, with 7 points and 5 assists for the point guard from Emek Izrael.

Hawaii 61 – Toledo 67
Naama Shafir started the game and finished with 7 points and 5 assists in Toledo's 2nd straight win at the Hawaii tournament, this time against the hosts. This is Toledo's best start of the season since the 02/03 season.

The Rockets started out well and went up 13-3 but couldn’t break away. Hawaii came back to tie it t 17 and hung around tight. At the break Toledo led just 36-30. In the 2nd half Toledo went inside more and the lead grew back to double digits, 56-45 with 8:30 to play. The Rockets stayed in front by at least 4 points the rest of the way.

Tanika Mays led the winners with 20 points and 12 boards, Melissa Goodall added 13. Shafir had 7 points (3/9 2pt, 0/3 3pt, 1/2 FTs), 5 assists, 5 turnovers and 4 rebounds, but drew complements from the losing coach. "She did not hurt us offensively but she's a great PG. She controlled the game for them," he said.

Tomorrow Toledo wraps up the tournament against Marymount, who lost in triple overtime to Arizona tonight (88-93).
