Ramat Hen Signs Three
Safsal ,08/26/2008
After months of no news on the foreigners front, Ramat Hen announced today the signing of 3 players: center LaToya Pringle from the Phoenix Mercury, forward Tamara James and point guard Matalya Belvin.

After completing their Israeli roster, Ramat Hen signed 3 Americans this morning. The familiar name among the three is Tamara James (24, 5'9), a talented guard/forward who can score inside and out. James landed in Israel in the 05/06 season in Haifa Motzkin but didn't get on the court due to the team's financial problems. James was the 8th overall pick in the 2006 WNBA draft by Washington following a wonderful career in Miami University. She finished her career with an average of 20.0 points (49.6% FGs), 6.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. James was named first team All ACC in her final two seasons in Miami. James played two seasons with the Mystics, and in 2007 she averaged 5.3 points in 12.9 minutes per game. She didn’t make the roster this summer.

In Europe, James played in Turkey for Marisn last season, and averaged 13.7 points and 4.2 rebounds in 25.8 minutes per game. In 06/07 she played in Spain and averaged 11.3 points and 3.3 rebounds in 25.6 minutes per game.

The most interesting name is LaToya Pringle, the 13th pick in the recent WNBA draft by Phoenix, the defending champions. Pringle played 22 games this season and averaged 4.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game (3rd among rookies after Parker and Fowels) in 12.2 minutes per game.

Pringle (6'3, 21) graduated from UNC this summer after averaging 14.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.7 blocks in 24.8 minutes in her senior year. In her junior season she set all time records with 121 blocks, 3.1 per game. Overall she finished her career with 336 blocks, first all time in UNC history and 2nd in ACC history. She was named to the All-ACC team and won the ACC's Defensive player of the year this season.

Ramat Hen's third foreigner is a lot less recognizable, her name is Matalya Belvin (25, 5'4), a scoring point guard who graduated from Langston University (NAIA) in 06/07. She averaged 20.1 points and 5.4 assists per game as a senior in college. Belvin played in Turkey in 07/08, for Cankaya. She averaged 14.9 points and 2.2 assists per game in 21 games.

Pringle, James and Belvin join Michal Epstein, Shiri Sharon, Sharon Zeevi, Hila Izhar, Noa Ganor and Chen Shtain at Ramat Hen.
