Limor Mizrachi To Announce Retirement

Limor Mizrachi, Ramat Hasharon's point guard in the last two seasons and a true Israeli basketball legend, will announce her retirement in a press conference this coming Tuesday.

Limor Mizrachi, who'll celebrate her 38th birthday at the end of the month, will announce her retirement this coming Tuesday. Mizrachi, one of the best and most decorated Israeli basketball players of all time, is finishing an illustrious career which took her around the globe. Mizrachi won our Israeli championships, four Israeli cups and three championships in different leagues around Europe. She was also the first Israeli to play in a Euroleague final four and the ABL. Mizrachi played many years for the Israeli National team and also served as Capitan, with over 100 appearances in the national uniform. Mizrachi helped the team to two European Championships in 1990 and 2003.

In Israel Mizrachi began her career over 20 years ago in Bnei Yehuda, where she grew up. In 1992 Mizrachi was one of the first Israelis to go to college in the states, when she averaged 8.3 points and 4.5 assists for the Maryland Terrapins. From there she moved to Holon and Ramla where she won two Championships. In 1998 Mizrachi signed with the ABL's New England Blizzard and averaged 5.6 points per game. After the ABL folded, Mizrachi went to Iceland where she won the championship and cup. In 2000 Mizrachi returned to Israel to Karmiel and helped them reach two finals in three years. After Karmiel folded Mizrachi went back to Holon, and the following year moved to Ramat Hasharon where she won the championship and cup. In 2004 Mizrachi went back to Europe, this time to Poland, where she helped Gydinia to a Polish Championship and the Euroleague Final Four. After a season in Ramat Hen Mizrachi again went to Europe and won the Croatian championship in 2006 with Gospic.

In the last two seasons in Ramat Hasharon, Mizrachi averaged 5.7 points and 3.6 assists per game, and those were the only two seasons of her career where she didn’t average double figure points – including the seasons in Europe. In both seasons Ramat Hasharon and Mizrachi reached the cup final twice and the 06/07 playoff finals. Mizrachi played 22.6 minutes per game and had four double figure games this season, but also had a game with 12 assists – tying a season league record.
