Maryland Retired Doron's Jersey
Safsal ,02/09/2008
Last night, at the half of Maryland's game against Virginia, Shay Doron went to center court to watch her jersey being raised to the rafters. " It was one of the most special moments I had in terms of my career. It's the highest personal honor for an individual player", Doron said.

Shay Doron, who plays for Elizur Ramla and Israel's national team, and is the first Israeli in the WNBA, attended Maryland's win over Virginia last night. At the half Doron was given a framed #22 jersey, and along with coach Brenda Freese watched her jersey making its way to the rafters. She's Maryland's 3rd all time leading scorer with 1,878 points.

Doron is only the 4th player in Maryland history to achieve such an honor, with the last one being Vicky Bullet 19 years ago. Doron was Freese's first recruit, and part of the only Terps class to make the NCAA tournament in all four seasons. The highlight was of course the 05/06 season, where Doron served as Capitan on Maryland's surprising and historic National Championship team.

Doron also got to see a Maryland win, as they enjoyed 25 points by Laura Harper and 21 by Marisa Coleman to beat Virginia 86 – 80. The Terps trailed 59 – 51 with 11 minutes to go, but made a 13 – 2 run to grab the lead for good. Doron told cstv.com about how she still follows the team from Israel. "It's difficult because of the time difference, but I listen to them on the radio whenever I can. Every morning, the first thing I do is check the website. I e-mail the team and try to stay as up on them as I can."
