No Maryland player will ever No. 22 again. On Friday Maryland will retire Shay Doron’s #22 jersey, making her the 4th player in school history to receive the honor.

"It’s an amazing feeling to be honored like this”, said Shay Doron to nyliberty.com, the official website of her WNBA team. “It’s the biggest honor a player can receive, I feel truly blessed to have had such an amazing four years”, she added.
Doron, who is currently playing for Israeli defending champs, Ramla, flew to the states following Ramla’s win in Slovakia which clinched them a spot in the Europe Cup’s 1/4 finals. Ramla’s next game is only on the 15th.

The ceremony will be held at the half of #4 Maryland’s game against Virginia. Doron led the Terps to their first national title in the 05/06 season, and is part of the only Maryland class to appear in the NCAA tournament four times. Doron finished her career 2nd on Maryland’s all-time scorers list (she’s been passed by Crystal Langhorne since), with 1,878 career points. She holds the record for free throws made (492) and games played (134).

Doron made the All-ACC’s 3rd team as a freshman, and was All-ACC 1st team as a sophomore. She led Maryland to the national championship as a junior, and was the MVP of the title game. Her career averages are 14.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game. Doron was the 16th overall pick in the last WNBA draft by New York.
