Maccabi Loses the Cup!!!
Or Shakedi ,02/05/2007
For the first time in 9 years, Maccabi Tel Aviv won't win the Israeli state cup. The team lost tonight to Nailon's Bnei Hasharon in the semifinals. The other finalist is Hapoel Jerusalem, who crushed Ironi Ramat Gan.

The last Israeli title that Maccabi Tel Aviv lost was the state cup in 1997. Since then, the Yellows won 9 doubles in a row, but tonight this streak reached its end, in another low point of Maccabi's terrible year. Bnei Hasharon will play Hapoel Jerusalem in the final on Thursday.

Hapoel Jerusalem 117 - Ironi Ramat Gan 78
Jerusalem expected a tough battle, but Ramat Gan was no match tonight. They led most of the first quarter, before Jerusalem ran 9-2 to take the lead for good. The second quarter had only one team, Jerusalem, who scored 59 points until intermission, and opened a 20-point gap from which Ramat Gan had no chance to return.

Bnei Hasharon 94 - Maccabi Tel Aviv 87
Bnei Hasharon knocks out Maccabi, in one of the best games seen in recent years. Nailon's 22 first half points gave Bnei the lead right from the start, as Maccabi trailed 2-16 in the opening quarter, and 20-40 in the second period, before cutting to 42-52 at the half.

Jeretin's back-to-back three's sparked Maccabi, but Bnei still held a double-digit lead, which was extended to 18 in the third quarter. The frustrated yellows couldn't get their grip, and only a pair of late three-pointers put Bnei's win into little risk, but it was too little, too late, and the cup will find a new holders this season.
