Jerusalem Close to the Semis

Hapoel Jerusalem, with a very good debut by Terence Morris, had no problems to defeat Givat Shmuel (Still without Deon Thomas) on the road, as Bowers scored 16 of his game-high 21 points in the second half against his last year's team. The rest of the games are today (Sunday): Maccabi Tel Aviv hosts Nahariya, Gilboa/Afula travels to Bnei Hasharon and National League side Yoqne'am/Megido will try to upset Ramat Gan.

In an early game which started the State Cup's quarterfinal first leg, Hapoel Jerusalem defeated Givat Shmuel on the road 106-95, and will probably advance to the final 4 in the second leg next Saturday in Malcha.

Jerusalem were off to a quick start, as Hajaj starts again at the point and scores early 10 against his former club. Terence Morris, in his official premiere, also had a terrific first half, which ended with the highest margin of the game, 62-42.

Straight and Aharoni woke up after the intermission, but Givat Shmuel's defense saw their former player, Timmy Bowers, scores 16 after the break, and doesn't allow them to cut the deficit. In the end, 106-95.

Givat Shmuel: Davis 20, Aharoni 18, Straight 16, Wallace 14 (11 boards), Cohen 13, Davidi 7, Brenner 5, Naimi 2.

Jerusalem: Bowers 21, Austin 17 (10 boards), Tapiro 14, Morris 13, Hajaj 12, Golemac 8, Cota, Markovich and Pniny 7 apiece.
