Mario Austin, who had a very good first season in Israel, will stay for another year with Hapoel Jerusalem.
Mario Austin, who signed a 1+1 contract with Hapoel Jerusalem last year, has decided to stay in the team for one more year. Austin will play back-to-back seasons with the same team for the first time in his pro career, after spending one year in the WBA and Biella of Italy last year.
The power forward, who was selected 36th in the 2003 draft, will postpone his NBA dream for another year, after playing last summer for the Bulls in the summer league. He averaged 16.2 points and 7.9 boards in the league, 20.7 points and 8.8 boards in the state cup and 17.4 points and 9.4 rebounds in ULEB Cup, where he was also voted MVP of the first round.
Austin, whose name was rumoured to Real Madrid and Barcelona, will probably hold the biggest contract ever in Jerusalem. He's the first foreigner to stay for another season with the team since Dereck Hamilton and Kenny Williams in the end of the last decade.
