Sheffer Retires from Basketball!

For the second time in his career, and despite a contract with Hapoel Tel Aviv, Doron Sheffer has reportedly told the team he's quiting basketball at 32.
In a phone call from the States, Doron Sheffer has told Shaul Aizenberg, Hapoel Tel Aviv's chairman, that he's not returning to the start of the season. At 32, Sheffer retires from basketball for the second time.
Sheffer, who averaged 9.4 points and 3 assists last season for Jerusalem, has preferred Hapoel Tel Aviv this summer over Galil Elyon, and in a press conference, both he and the team's officials talked about his taking over the leader role. The player however didn't arrive to the start of the pre-season, and tonight announced his retirement.
The "Ice Man" was one of the best ever Israeli basketballers: He has led Galil Elyon to a historic championship in 92/3, took Maccabi Tel Aviv to the Euroleague final and was the first Israeli to be picked in the NBA Draft, as the Clippers selected him in 1996 after 3 terrific seasons with the Uconn Huskies.
Sheffer stunned the country 5 years ago, as he told the nation that "His heart told him to quit basketball". During his 3 years of retirement, he travelled the World and overcame the cancer desease.
3 years ago, he surprised us once again as he returned to Maccabi Tel Aviv. In 03/4 he moved to Hapoel Jerusalem, with which he took the ULEB Cup, as he excells in the final against Real Madrid.
Sheffer was disappointing last season, but it seems that he plans on a fresh start for Coach Birenboim in Tel Aviv. Tonight however, he hangs his shoes once again, this time, probably for good.
