The Euroleague runner-up, Maccabi Tel Aviv, has completed its roster, with the arrival of Puerto-Rican Carlos Arroyo, which leaves the NBA for Europe for the first time. Coach Birenboim: "It's exactly what we needed".

After several weeks of rumours, which included Jason Williams, Earl Boykins, Willie Solomon and many others, Maccabi Tel Aviv have finally sealed their roster for next season, with the purchase of Carlos Arroyo.

Puerto-Rico's starting playmaker, which turned 29 last week, signed with the "Yellows" today, and will be their highest-paid player ever, with a contract around 2.5 million dollars.

The Florida Intl. graduate wasn't drafted, but played his entire pro career in the NBA. After a split first season between the Raptors and Nuggets, he moved to Utah Jazz, and after John Stockton's retirement, displayed his career-best numbers, averaging 12.6 points and 5.0 assists per game.

He spent two and a half years in Salt Lake City, before moving to Detroit, where he played for a season and a half. In the last 2.5 years, he has played for the Orlando Magic, for which he averaged 6.9 points and 3.5 assists last year.

Coach Effie Birenboim was very pleased with the transaction: "It's a player from the highest level in the world, which was our top priority for a long time".

"I'm glad the management decided to sign him despite his great cost", Effie said, "It's exactly the kind of player we needed: Not only a great performer, but also a leader".
