The most experienced coach in the league, Effie Birenboim, signed with Maccabi Tel Aviv for the first time in his career, a few days before turning 54 years old.
Maccabi Tel Aviv officially announced today that Effie Birenboim will replace Zvika Sherf as the team's head coach for the next year.
Effie, who'll celebrate his 54th birthday next week, is the most veteran coach in the league, with 22 years in a row, most of them in mid-major clubs, except for periods with Hapoel Jerusalem and Hapoel Tel Aviv.
In the last 2 years he has been coaching Bnei Hasharon. In his first season he stunned Maccabi in the state cup semifinals, and the second he swept them 3-0 in the league, before losing 55-57 in a drammatic Final-4 semifinal.
Birenboim has won his only title 13 years ago, as he led Bnei Hertzliya to a surprising cup, after defeating Maccabi Tel Aviv in the semi's, 107-93.
